City Mayor Librado Navarro leads his team as they craft Bislig’s vision and strategy.

The City of Bislig, located in Surigao del Sur, banking on its rich bio-diversity, has set its sights on becoming a model city for organic agriculture in the Philippines by 2022. The city is currently known as an eco-tourism destination with its most popular tourist attraction, Tinuy-an Falls.

After attending ISA’s Boot Camp in Bohol, the city government, led by Mayor Librado Navarro, began to craft its long-term vision and strategy. The city is working towards providing its constituents with more economic opportunities and is focused on building on its agricultural strengths.

ISA Executive Director Chris Zaens guides the group as they develop the city’s scorecard.

One of the city’s strategic initiatives is to develop the “Bislig Organic” brand by acquiring organic certification for its rice, vegetables, and fertilizers. Bislig also seeks to establish an effective and sustainable program for its organic farmers by providing them with access to technology and capital. Through these initiatives, the city hopes to improve the lives of Bisliganons and to achieve its 2022 vision.
