Dr. Jesus Estanislao, founder of ISA and one of the country’s notable authorities on good governance, offers essential advice on the importance of knowing how to govern oneself before one can govern others. Personal governance is key to successful governance and having these fundamental values will help one become a leader with integrity, fairness, courage, and orderliness.
Â
In his latest book, Dr. Jesus P. Estanislao reminds the reader of the need for good governance even at the level of civic groups, corporations, institutions, and local government units. Indeed, he points out, before any group can be properly and effectively governed for the common good of its members, the individual – the basic unit of any group – must know how to govern himself.
The term governance is often used in a more limited sense than it actually signifies. In fact. governance applies not only to the highest level of a nation’s government.
Personal governance, therefore, is key to the successful governance of any group of persons, from the smallest organization to national governments and even international organizations.
To ensure good governance, Dr. Estanislao recommends the creation and nurturing of a unique culture at the personal, organizational, and national levels – a culture driven by four indispensable core values: integrity, fairness, courage, and orderliness.
In Guideposts for Governance, the author shows us why these fundamental values are essential to good governance.
